The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a reduced demand for all refined products including marine fuels, resulting in these products being stored for extended times. Since these fuels usually have a fast turnover, this long-term storage increases the risk of fuel quality deterioration. VPS offers testing and monitoring of marine fuels as the best way of mitigating such fuel quality storage risks.

Although longer-term storage of marine fuels is possible, it increases the risk of fuel quality issues arising from temperature, stratification, fuel stability, catfine settling, waxing and microbial growth. Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), Ultra Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (ULSFO) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO), all have different properties and formulations, which can be negatively affected due to longer-term storage.
Whether you are a fuel supplier with floating storage, or a vessel owner/operator, with ships in a state of either “Cold Lay-up” or “Hot Lay-up”, monitoring your stored fuel quality has never been so important!!

With 40 years experience and expertise in marine fuel testing and inspection, VPS can provide you with a comprehensive supporting service, to sample, test and advise upon your stored marine fuels. This service will assist in managing the risks, help avoid quality deterioration and preserve the value of YOUR fuel.

In addition, a ROB survey can also be undertaken upon request.
