Particle Count, InfraRed Analysis, Blotter Spot, Insolubles and Wear Debris Analysis
The presence of unwanted particles in machinery severely affects both performance and longevity. The particles can be in the form of Carbon, Silicon or Sand and are likely to be present due to incomplete combustion, depleted dispersancy additives, clogged filters or poor oil hygiene practices.
It is important, therefore, to regularly monitor your lubricant in order to perform appropriate maintenance before poor performance through clogging and abnormal wear begins.
It is also important to be able to recognise the different types of unwanted particles and be able to establish their origin to allow an effective solution.
The range of tests we offer
- Particle Count (size and distribution) to ISO 4406 and ISO 4407 by microscopy
- InfraRed analysis for soot content
- Videophotometry or “blotter spot” for level of contamination and additive ability to disperse
- Gravimetric assessment for presence of insoluble particulate material
VPS can take the above assessments one step further through a sophisticated microscopic investigation and comparison with a particle image database of over 100,000 images. This allows VPS to establish the potential origin or causation of the particle.
