Good Health & Well-Being (SDG 3)
Our FQT contributes towards air quality improvements by reducing ship air pollution. Our S testing in bunker fuel enables SOx emissions to be monitored and we verify legislative compliance (MARPOL Annex VI) to the IMO global S Cap of 0.5% and the IMO Emission Control Areas S Cap of 0.10%. We help the IMO to directly monitor S emissions by testing fuel on their behalf. In addition, we use our FQT to investigate the combustion characteristics of bunker fuel, advising the ship operator how to optimise the power generation of the engines by adjusting the fuel injection and the air fuel ratio. This ensures complete fuel combustion without leaving residues such as soot (carbon, black smoke) hence reducing the emissions.
We help ship operators ensure safety of life at sea and deliver uninterrupted and efficient operations. Our FQT and OCM services provide protection against the breakdown of main and auxiliary engines at sea. Additionally, our FQT supports safety during bunkering by ensuring that the flashpoint of the fuel is > 60°C. We also perform FQT and OCM to assess the condition of critical equipment on board the vessel such as the main propulsion and power generation including safety critical equipment’s such as the emergency generators, emergency fire pumps and lifeboats.
We provide advice based on our TOT for dissolved gas analysis to mitigate the risk of explosion and fire of transformers.

Climate action (SDG 13) & Life Below Water (SDG14)
We provide technical advice to the Chief Engineer using FQT results to ensure efficient operation of the vessel’s engines (e.g. during fuel change-over, slow steaming) minimising GHG emissions. By combining FQT and OCM results we can accurately monitor the engine condition and provide guidance to the ship operator to optimise engine performance, further reducing GHG emissions per nautical mile. Specific technical details of how these services reduce GHG emissions are given below:
Our OCM service provides early warning of impending engine problems supporting smooth and efficient operation by tracking changes in the lubricant quality. Smooth engine operation helps to optimise GHG emissions during the vessel journey. We perform Scrape Down Analysis (SDA) of the Cylinder Lubricating Oil (CLO) which is consumed as part of the engine combustion system. This has a direct impact on the emissions, since the higher the consumption higher the emissions. Our SDA provides the operator valuable information on ways to optimise the use of CLO and GHG emissions.
We combine FQT and OCM results to forecast potential fouling conditions that may arise form incomplete combustion and prevent these from increasing emissions and potential engine breakdowns (e.g. high ash content & high micro carbon residue). We perform Fuel Systems Checks to ensure efficient purifier operation on board to ensure that the quality of the fuel entering the engine is optimal. This minimises emissions and extends the operating lifetime of the machinery.

SDG7: Affordable & Clean Energy
We are supporting the research and development of green fuels (e.g. biofuels) through our FQT and advisory services. We are also involved in sea trials to assess the adoption of these new fuels, applying our experience & knowledge to overcome technical difficulties that are often encountered when burning new fuels.
We help to ensure consistent electricity supply through the network by prevent transformer failures by proving advice based on our TOT results. We also contribute towards clean energy, supporting solar, wind and biomass energy production by providing services in the operation of the equipment and grid connectivity to prevent failures and downtime.
